So early yesterday morning, my grandad finally got his wish and his heart stopped beating after an all to long struggle with his failing body. He slept quietly and just slipped away without any pain or anxiety but was in peace and had my grandma by his side. We are all very sadden by the loss but we are also very happy that he finally will be in peace and not in pain anymore. It’s been very hard on all of us to see him wither away in this way, being transformed from the strong, independent, funny and intelligent man he’s always been to a shadow of his former self but we will always remember him the way he would want us to and he will forever live in our hearts and minds as the great man he was.
I will always remember the time I spend with him discussing the news and politics.
I think that George Eliot said it well, “Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them.” By that he will always live with us.
