Review – AK Interactive Realistic Wood Effects
- Title: Extreme Reality
- Company: AK Interactive
It’s a soft cover book with 83 pages which covers 15 different techniques. All pages have a satin shine and are nice and thick.
The binding seems good and are just as good now as when I got it, and I have been reading it quite a lot.
All the photos look great. There’s quite a lot of them and I can’t find anything to complain about.
The writing is good and it has fewer words misspelled than in their Extreme Reality book. There’s less text in this book but they have increased the number of photos and it works out really well.
The chapters in this book are:
- Wooden Barrels
- Wood Tools
- What’s in the Box
- Wooden Cart
- Timber Door Chipping
- Wood Fence Weathering
- Weathered Planks
- Cracked Fence
- Boat in the River
- Over the Deck
- Wooden Hull Painting
- Wooden Tiles
- Realistic Wood Texture
- Wood Propeller
- Using Real Wood for Details
The number of pages per section varies but I never felt that there weren’t enough instruction in any of the chapters.
When I ordered the book I didn’t think I would have that much use for it as the Extreme Reality one but I can honestly say that I were wrong. Comparing the two, I’ve read this book much more then Extreme Reality.
The techniques shown are very usable and easier to replicate, at least for me.
I used a couple of them for the wooden parts of my Bunny Park diorama and I really like the outcome.
I also think that these techniques are easier to use for gaming miniatures.
